Roadies Updates

LHS Band Roadies,   10/15/12

YIM Weekend …

YIM is always a really neat venue … the band sounds great and yet has a very unique sound in the HHH Metrodome.  The kids did just a beautiful performance both at preliminaries and at finals.  They should be proud of their work and accomplishments on the field.  The awards ceremony included Mr. Carlson receiving an award for 44 years of music education … a noble and huge accomplishment.  As the roadies … we grappled with some weather for the preliminaries, but you all did an outstanding job of keeping the kids and equipment dry / functional.  We were extremely fortunate that it was relatively dry for the finals preparation.  Thank you to everyone that was able to help roadie … everything was covered.  Thank you to  the roadies who took the weekend in from the stands supporting the band.  This applies especially to those who are in their first year.  It is always good and recommended to take in at least a couple of the competition performances during the year … great memories!  All in all … another great weekend!

Tuesday Morning …

There will be a Tuesday morning practice and we will be able to load the two pit trailers immediately following the morning practice.  We will also get the drum line instruments into the box truck for the football game halftime show.  Please join us if you are available on Tuesday morning for loading the trailers and box truck.

Wednesday Evening …

We will move trailers on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.  I am planning this one a little later hoping that we can get enough towers to make it in one trip to HWF.  Please join us and please let me know your availability.

Thursday Evening …

We have the football game halftime show on Thursday afternoon /  evening.  Please join us to roadie if you are available.  We will tow back to LHS after the band is re-loaded and released from pep band for the football game.

Future Shows …

We will perform the halftime show as often as possible to keep the field show in practice.  We will perform at the post season football game halftimes.

Future Items …

All of our competitions for the regular season are completed and we only have a few football game half time shows left in the regular band season … it really went fast!  Thank you to everyone for hanging in there and just making the season fun and memorable.  I am working on scheduling a day and time to meet at a Pizza Ranch for an evening meal.  It would be great if you would bring your families and some reminiscing about the season could take place.  I will send out an email in the future with the details.

During that time together, I would like to try something that I hope will be productive.  Rick, Randy, and myself are new to our positions this year and we would like your constructive feedback.  If there are items / areas within the roadies purview which can be improved, we would like to hear your thoughts so we can be the best we can for next year.  Also, if there are topics that have come up throughout the season that may be larger than the roadies or may involve other groups of the band parents association, please bring those concerns; HOWEVER, I would also request that you consider some possible solutions that we could bring forward with a given concern.  The roadies are a problem solving and resourceful group.  If we have some challenges or concerns that are larger than what is within our scope, then lets offer up some possible solutions based on those lessons learned through this marching band season.  There are reasons for why certain things are the way they are; but if there are challenges, let’s talk about them and work toward a solution that will make our band parents organization better and stronger for the band.  I guess I would summarize this activity as an open forum “comments box” with potential solutions.

That’s all from me … please let me know if there are concerns or questions!

Sincerely,

Jeff
