We would like to congratulate the Lincoln High School Symphonic and Concert bands for receiving consistent superior ratings from all judges at the 2011 South Dakota Region II Large Group Contest that took place on April 6 in Brandon. The symphonic band received two perfect scores of 40 points and a 39 from the three judges, and the concert band received scores of 37, 38, and 39, all within the superior category.
Congratulations also go out to the Lincoln High School Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 jazz ensembles for their consistent superior ratings at the Brookings Optimist Jazz Band Festival on April 7. Both bands received three superior ratings from the three judges, and Jazz 1 received 2nd overall from a field of 16 bands.
This week’s big thing is the Car Wash Blitz. Please participate in the blitz and support the Band! We would like everyone to participate if able. The signup sheet for students is on the wall in the band hallway. We also need parent drivers. Parents, please contact Mike or Madonna at mlma2@sio.midco.net or Dick or Dawn at dstanga@sio.midco.net to volunteer for driving. You may request to drive for your son or daughter.
More Information:
Saturday, April 16th – 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. A car wash where we don’t wash the cars! Soaps Up Car Wash (on the corner of 37th & Minnesota) will take care of the washing – all we have to do is sell the car wash coupons.
Drivers and students will meet at the LHS parking lot by the trailers on the south side Saturday .
How’s the Blitz work? Students, in groups of 2 to 4, will sell car wash coupons in a designated area. Each student group will be accompanied/driven by a parent. Students can sign up for a time slot (10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. OR 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.) individually or in groups of 2 to 4. Each student group will be assigned an area along with an adult (parent) driver. The driver will be responsible for safely transporting the students. Students will NOT be allowed to drive for the blitz – NO EXCEPTIONS!
Hy-Vee and Sunshine Cards will be available on MONDAY, March 7th at 6:30 p.m. Barb will be in the atrium outside the LHS auditorium. Scrip cards will NOT be available on Tuesday March 8th.
In preparation for the upcoming marching band season, all new members and veterans are required to attend one of the two upcoming meetings in March. Information regarding the ISA, schedules, band forms, and other general information will be presented.
